Swaggin' Saturday *Only Hearts Club*

Are there any mom's out there that have never actually purchased certain "popular dolls" for your daughters because they are scantly clad....over developed...and let's face it, a bit skanky?

Yea, this is me raising my hand. But being a mom, I still wanted my girls to be able to have fun playing with lifelike dolls. So when I heard of Only Hearts Club dolls I could not have been more excited.

Instead of playing with a doll that is an adult woman, these adorable dolls are young girls. Real dolls for real girls!

The Only Hearts Club has so many dolls to choose from and all of them are dressed in age-appropriate fashions. Each dolls' clothing is cool, wholesome and stylish.

They are 9 inches tall and fully poseable: Each doll's entire body (neck, shoulders, arms, elbows, wrists, waist, legs, knees and ankles) can be posed into real-life positions.

Also each one is so cute and different. You should see the detail in their faces. The dolls are uniquely sculpted and detailed. Some even with freckles. My favorite!!

Only Hearts Club sent me the entire Only Hearts Collection of 8 girls to review. My girls are beside themselves playing with all of them. They have learned the name of each girl and the name of the pet that comes with each doll.

I really love that they are such a good company that delivers a positive, wholesome and age-appropriate message to children.

I know there are many moms out there that want to support such great companies. Oh, and if you have a little one who loves horses be sure to check out their

Let's kick it into spring shall we?

Hey everyone! I wanted to first off say that I'm sorry I haven't been making as many freebies lately. I really truly love making them. Zoning out in front of the computer at night is extremely therapeutic for me :)
But for the last 5 months or so a certain little something has made me EXTREMELY tired and lazy.

Thanks to time and lots of Zofran I'm feeling much better now and am ready to get back to business. First up, it's time for some springy layouts out there! I can't take the cold weather much longer and I need to see some bright colors around the blogosphere!

I made a couple new blog backgrounds today and you can also check out our collection of free springy layouts by clicking here

Please contact us to claim your prize!
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Swaggers!!

Here is yet another Saturday full of goodness!

Today is all about Lauren's Picks

Lauren's Picks is a site that offers clothing and accessories, PLUS she's a stylist who can personally help you with all your style needs. How awesome is that?!
Great service. Items for women AND men. All at a great price.

I got to review the Olive Slouch beanie in Oat.

Hands down, favorite beanie (and I love beanies). It's soft, great quality, warm and adorable.
I'm constantly adjusting or fixing my hair with other beanies, but this one didn't move an inch. It has elastic around the opening to keep it perfectly in place all day long. And the little studs gave it a feminine twist that I love! It makes a perfect all dressed up, date night addition, or a casual hangout kind of day.
And if your still in the nasty cold winter days like me, your head will thank you. Seriously.

Sooo comfy, yes? Not sure? Well, how about we give one away to one lucky swagger so you can see just how awesome this beanie really is?
Yeah. I thought it was a good idea, too.

------------------------------------------------------------------

There are several ways to enter the giveaway. The first is required. The others just raise your chances of winning. Leave a separate comment for each of the things you do.

You Have To Do This -
Go to Lauren's Picks and pick your favorite item. Then come back and comment on this post telling us what you love.

Social Media Week - *BLOGFROG*

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned on my blogging journey is that the connections I make online have been critical to any success I’ve had as a blogger. You cannot expect to start a blog, knock everyone off their feet with your insight and wit, and shoot to blogger super stardom.

Blogging is about who you are and whatever your passion is, but it’s also about community.
I’ve written about how important it is to reach out and make friends with other bloggers before. Friendships you make online can truly change the way you write. Friends give you feedback and advice. They share their ideas and invite you to participate.

But how do we find these friends? It’s easy. You build your community. You comment on other blogs. You respond to comments on your own blog. You reach out to people on Twitter. You show people that you have something of value to offer and that you’re interested in what they have to say.

I am currently an Account Manager for BlogFrog, a site that allows bloggers to create communities for their blogs as well as connect with one another via forums and discussions. The idea is that you can extend discussion from a blog post to your own community forums and connect with other communities andtheir members.

Connecting with readers on a platform like BlogFrog is a great way to strengthen your community and increase the number of bloggers returning to read your blog each day. Every time you start or respond to a discussion on BlogFrog you leave a link back to your blog and your community.

Bloggers who actually embed their BlogFrog community forums onto their site actually see an increase in page views and they have the added benefit of keeping their readers on their page as opposed to sending them away to continue the conversation.
SITS is another great site for community building. It was developed on the foundation of friendship when Tiffany and Heather wanted to brainstorm a way to give smaller blogs a voice and some comment love. Today, SITS is managed by Tiffany, Francesca, Angie and myself and is the hub for daily featured bloggers, style, blog tips, education, and above all else, a community of support and inspiration for women.

I have learned everything I know about blogging by networking with people who want to see me succeed as much as they want to succeed themselves. Building a community through platforms like BlogFrog and connecting daily with women on SITS has not only helped increase my readership, but have opened up doors to opportunities and friendship I didn’t know existed when I started this journey.

Today's guest post is from Mama Kat. She is a sarcastic mother of three with a busy home daycare that clashes with her desire to do nothing all day. I was lucky enough to meet Kat last year and she honestly is one of the funniest ladies out there. Love this girl! Be sure to check out her site. She's hilarious!

You can check out our community on Blogfrog - The Casual Blogger Community.  Thanks again Mama Kat!

Social Media Week - *YOUTUBE*

"I started using Youtube to host my vlogs and video tutorials in 2009. Youtube is an invaluable marketing platform that can propel your business into marketing bliss. I think it's safe to say that video blogging and the era of DIY video tutorials is upon us and like the age old saying "if you can't beat them, join them!" If you want to keep up with your competitors and stay ahead of the game it's time to sign up for one more social network. Airing your videos on your own YouTube channel is a creative way to market and interact with your customers and readers and it's so easy for people to find and follow your channel. Youtube even makes it easy to customize your channel to fit your brand, making you look professional and streamlined. If you're still not convinced that YouTube is for you, let's look at some basic statistics.

- In 2010 YouTube exceeded 2 billion hits a day.
- The average person spends 15 minutes a day on YouTube.
- YouTube is monetizing over a billion video views per week globally.
- Hundreds of millions of videos are watched every month on mobile devices.
- over 3 million people are connected to and auto-sharing YouTube Videos to at least one social network.
- 46.2 years worth of YouTube videos are watched a day on Facebook alone.
(Statistics found on website-monitoring.com)

Here are 3 great ways you can utilize YouTube to interact with your customers and expand your business.
1. Let your viewers get to know the real you by uploading videos of yourself live. You can do weekly vlogs, host interviews with special guests, and talk about your business and why you love it.
2. Take advantage of your creativity and showcase it in video tutorials and DIY projects to get your viewers interacting with your business.
3. Give your customers one more reason to buy your products by offering detailed videos of your products up close to exhibit how fabulous they truly are.

Those are just a few of the many ways you can use Youtube to further develop your business!

In short that's a whole lot of people spending a whole lot of time making a whole lot of money and networking to even more people through other social media. Not such a bad trend to follow after all I'd say.

Some more fun facts about youtube:

- 24 hours of video are uploaded every minute.
- More video is uploaded to YouTube in 60 days than all 3 major US networks created in 60 years.
- Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" is the most popular video on YouTube with over 185.39 million views.

Becki is the ownder and founder of Whippy Cake. She wears stripes with polka dots and white after Labor Day.  Her fun-sized counterparts are her inspiration and muse, the King (Kingston) and Lo Lo (London).  She’s short on time and long on love, so she needs her fashion to work for her. This idea gave birth to Whippy Cake, a brand encompassing more than just salivation inducing accessories. Whippy Cake is made to work for you. Vamp it up for date night, class it up for church the next morning, and simplify it for late night pajama clad ice cream runs every other night. Indulge.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I met Becki a few years ago through her fun site and had so much fun watching her videos and tutorials. I have seen first hand how Youtube can boost numbers on blogs. Just another great source to connect with your audience. So give it a try!

You can check out Becki's Youtube channel here to see her great vlogs. Then go here to checkout Whippy Cake's famous accessories!  Thanks so much Becki!

Social Media Week - *TWITTER*

Twitter is often described as micro blogging, but it’s more than just that. Much of the reason behind the popularity of twitter has to do with the social networking side of it. It’s a useful tool for making both business and personal connections.
Are you looking for people who share a common interest or hobby? Twitter’s got you covered. Trying to reach the target audience for you product or business? Turn to twitter. Got a question? Send it out on Twitter and see what comes back. It’s a great place to make and receive trusted recommendations. There is a huge online community of people all over the world just waiting to hear from you.

So, now you’re wondering, “Where do I even begin?” There’s so much information out there and things are changing and improving each day. But here are a few tips to help you dip your toe into the stream of information that awaits.

Selecting a Twitter name.
Keep it short and sweet. Twitter only allows for 140 characters, and your name will take up space. Especially if someone is retweeting something you have said.

Who should I follow?
Follow anyone you are interested in: friends, aquaintences, businesses, interesting people. Start out slow. Follow people you know and who know you. Then as you get more comfortable you can find and follow more people based on your interests.

Listen and Interact:
Twitter is not your personal diary or your travel log. It’s all about conversation.

What should I say and how often should I say it?
Readers will value quality over quantity. Tweet when you have something to say. Don’t have anything to say? Read through your twitter stream and look for things you can chime in on. Ask a Question. Answer a question. Share a tip, idea or joke. Don’t look at Twitter as an obligation, but rather an opportunity to share and connect.

Be Yourself:
As with any type of social media, you should be yourself. You are looking to connect with people who are interesting and similar to you. Pretending to be someone or something you’re not won’t get you anywhere.

Last but not least…..remember this:
Twitter is public and searchable. Don’t tweet things you wouldn’t want your mother or your employer to read.

Take a crack at Twitter. You might be surprised! If you find that you like it and want to stick around, you can follow me @SavvyVeronica. Let’s be twitter friends, because as Clark Gable said in Gone with the Wind, “You should be retweeted and often and by someone who knows how.” …..or did he?

-Veronica

At my house I am the wife & the mom. In my home office I'm a Virtual Assistant and blogger. Behind closed doors I am a container-aholic and have a severe office supply addiction. Most wives love to receive flowers, but my husband knows the way to my heart is with paperclips and file folders.

I’ve been married for 18 years to an insightful, hilarious, hard working man and we are the parents of 5 great kids. My interests include graphic design, sewing, reading and watching my kids play sports. I spend any and all free time nagging said children --and sometimes the husband-- and shuffling kids to various games, lessons, practices and other activities.

I am a Social Media enthusiast who loves to learn new tips and tricks. I also enjoy browsing thrift stores and the occasional garage sale for a fabulous find.

You can find me at Local Community Hotspots
or on my personal blog: Welcome To My Chaos

Thanks so much Veronica!
I was so hesitant to start a Twitter account, but I've really enjoyed meeting new people and having fun conversations. I'm still learning a lot about it, but I'd encourage you all to get one! Especially if you have any sort of niche.

Be sure to follow @SavvyVeronica on Twitter and you can follow @LeelouBlogs too!

Social Media Week - *FACEBOOK*

chari-squarelogo2
Chari Pack, co-owner of Persnickety Prints has a love for marketing. After 10 years at Gap, inc in sales and marketing, she left to spend more time with her family, husband + 3 boys: Ethan 10, Noah 9, and Ryder 5, and to focus on a new adventure. After taking photoshop classes in 2007, she transitioned from paper scrapbooking to digital scrapbooking. Frusterated by the lack of quality in a 12x12 full bleed print, Chari ventured out to find it. A 12x12 photo print from a pro lab doesn't exist for under $4, so she created one,PersnicketyPrints.com. She offers 12x12 top of the line silver halide pro prints for only $1.99 and has come to the rescue for so many digital scrapbookers! (printing at home gets time consuming, expensive, and isn't always archival)
Why Facebook? facebookLogo
I was hesitant about facebook in the beginning. "A status? What a stupid thing to post", is what went through my head. Friends would tell me who they found from high school, or who was doing what. For me, I didn't really want to be "found". I like my private life. Then, it happened, I converted.
Welcome to the 21st century, you can't have a successful business, website, or blog, without facebook. Not only is facebook a way to interact with your customers, clients, and readers, it is a genius marketing tool. In my next life, I want to be Mark Zuckerberg. He is my hero. Of course he was Time Magazines 2010 person of the year!fb
Regardless of your goal , there are more than 500 million users on facebook, if you aren't one of them, you need to be. Business cards are becoming obsolete as facebook, twitter and other social media tools are evolving.
I will share 3 little secrets about facebook
1. Facebook is good for your health.
"Research has shown that strong social networks are a key reason some people survive into their 80s and beyond, while others don’t."
2. Your Profile Picture can say more than you think
If your goal on facebook is to "get the word out", there are little extra's you can do to achieve this. Your profile picture is one. Facebook allows your profile picture to be 200x516 pixels, I like to call it "more shout space". Your profile is your landing page, you need to say what's important and say it well. You can change your profile picture as often as you like, and customize the newsfeed thumbnail to show only a specific part of your image.
We have instructions on our blog and a free .psd template for you to try it out.
fb
3. Using Facebook to Market your brand and drive traffic
There are so many ways to use facebook as a marketing tool, we may need another day to cover them all. I will focus on the top two.

1) Facebook Places:
Ever gone to an event and find out afterward that your friends were there too? With Places, you can discover when you and your friends are at the same place at the same time.
You have the option to share your location by "checking in" to that place and letting friends know where you are. You can easily see if any of your friends have also chosen to check in nearby.
A simple but powerful way to use Facebook Places in business is to reward fans for checking in. Here are some examples of companies already using it: http://www.facebook.com/facebookplaces
Have a business or store front? You can set up "deals" to drive traffice to your location. Reward customers for "checking in". (When customers check in to your location, a message it shows up on their news feed all of their friends see that they are visiting your business) More on places.
places
2) Ads
Let's face it, advertising costs money. If you are using facebook to it's fullest potential, you will get your biggest bang for your buck.
Personally, I have set up online advertising for multiple companies on various search engines. (google, bing, yahoo) With these search engines, paid ads can be customized to a general market. (ie, women over 30, in the US & Australia, after 7pm, etc)
With Facebook, you can get even more specific! Facebook knows YOU. Yes, your information is private, facebook does not sell or give out any private information, and its up to you to be as detailed as you want to be.
..."People hated Facebook's News Feed when it was introduced in 2006. They thought it was creepy and intrusive. Zuckerberg stood his ground, and now Facebook is unimaginable without it. He moved the chains, and we went with him, setting up our defense that much farther toward the end zone. "The world is changing," Cox says. "When caller ID came out, people went psycho. You know, because, Oh my God, now people are going to know I'm calling them! This is terrible! I'm going to end up being tracked, and Big Brother and Orwell and all that! The reality is now you won't pick up a call unless you know who's calling you." - Lev Grossman, TIME magazine
Facebook knowing YOU is where the effective advertising comes in. In a way, facebook is better than those other search engines. You can purchase ads the same way (cpc or impressions). However, because facebook knows it's users likes and interests- your ads can be customized to a much more specific market.
Let's say I was selling top of the line Mountain Bikes. With Facebook, I can choose for my ads to only rotate on user's pages who live in mountainous areas, who "like" the outdoors, and who "like" all of my competitors.
If I am selling weight loss pills I could drive ads to users who "like" The Biggest Loser on TV, who "like" weight watchers, and who "like" donuts.
social_media_world
Like I said before, Mark Zuckerberg is my hero. If you aren't on facebook, I get it, I was hesitant too, but let's face it- it is now time to convert and join the rest of us. Facebook is here to stay.

Social Media Week - *RSS Feed*

If you been blogging for any amount of time, you've heard the term "RSS feed". Well, what the heck is that anyway?!? And why do all these people want me to subscribe to it? How do I subscribe to an RSS feed? Why on earth should I bother subscribing to a blog? {{snicker}}

Hi Ladies! I am Laurie Turk with Tip Junkie and this is what was going through my head when I first started reading blogs and I thought that you might have the same questions. Therefore, today I'll answer all of your questions with pictured instructions to keep it easy and uncomplicated.

Most blogs have a few ways to subscribe so that you find out when they post something new! But let's not get ahead of ourselves...

What Is An RSS Feed?

1. First off let's talk about, What is an RSS Feed?

RSS stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’. For bloggers, it's basically a technology that updates 'RSS Readers' when new content (such as a post) is uploaded. Many people refer to it also as a news feed.

Think of it as an electronic mail carrier that delivers new information when it's posted onto a website or blog. It's all completely automatic!
rss feed icon

2. How can I find a blogs RSS Feed?

On most blogs including WordPress blogs, you'll find an icon that looks similar to this orange speaker button. That's the universal icon for an RSS Feed. You'll find it in many colors and shapes but universally with the "speaker" dot and lines.

If you click this button, you'll be prompted to enter in your e-mail address or click an RSS Reader like "Google Reader". It's completely free and then you'll know when new content is posted on that blog.

For Blogspot.com blogs, go to the bottom of any blog and you'll find a link that says Posts (Atom). Click on that link and a new page will pop up. This is the RSS Feed default address which you'll need to copy & paste into your RSS Reader. (See picture above #1.) OR you can click on the drop down menu and choose a reader: e-mail, Google, Yahoo!, etc.

3. That brings us to, What are RSS Readers? There are tons of them out there. From my experience Google Reader and Bloglines are the most widely used.

RSS Readers are basically free programs that constantly check your favorite blogs for new content. If there is something new - it bolds the title of the blog and gives you the number of new posts.

It's a more efficient way to read blogs and to make sure you don't miss anything on your favorites. I have so many blogs I love, I have divided them up into different categories: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Crafty, etc.

* For Google Reader simply login/register to your Google account.
* Click the +Add a Subscription button on the top left to add your favorite blogs.
* Copy & Paste your favorite blogs RSS Feed URL.
* Don't forget to go back to Google Reader to read them. ;) A heads up, if you want to leave a comment you'll have to go to that persons blog.

To find out how many subscribers you have, simply click on your Blog then click on the 'Show Details' link on the top right of your feed. I want to give a "shout out" to the 9,518 Tip Junkie Google Feed readers! {{high fives!}} You ROCK!

How Do I Add It To My Blog?

4. Now that we know what it does and how it works, let's talk about How do I use my RSS Feed to promote my blog?

a. The first way is to put the RSS logo and links onto your side bar in a prominent place. Making it easy for people to sign up. I would suggest giving your readers an e-mail and a RSS Feed option.

I would suggest that you use FeedBurner which was recently bought by Google and it's seriously so easy. Go to FeedBurner and register. Next click on Publicize (see above image) and then choose how you want your RSS Feed to look and what RSS Readers you want to include.

Get your Chicklet code and then copy & paste it in the sidebar of your blog (choose html gadget option).

b. Next you're going to want to upload a Subscribe via E-mail option. To do this click Publicize then click on Email Subscriptions on the left sidebar in FeedBurner. Follow the prompts and then copy & paste the html code below your RSS Reader code in your sidebar.

It will look like this (above). You can also have it be a link if you copy & paste the 2nd code in FeedBurner just be sure that you choose the Blogger option.

c. Once you get a following, I would suggest that you add the FeedCount Chicklet under your RSS Subscriber options. This gives your blog instant credibility. It's a cinch to do it with FeedBurner.

Simply click on Publicize then click on FeedCount follow the prompts and copy & paste the html code into the sidebar of your blog. The Feed Count will automatically update as you receive new subscribers. Easy!

That's it! I hope I answered any questions that you had and made it easy for you to promote your blogs' RSS Feed.
